Our goats are productive. Our goats produce milk, from which we make cheeses and soap. We milk twice a day and freeze the milk for long term storage or refrigerate it for up to two weeks while using it in cereal, coffee, or recipe’s. Our younger son (11) and daughter (9) do most of the milking. They do a very good job of completely stripping the does which prevents mastitis and other udder problems.
Goat milk does not separate into the creamy head like cows milk does. If we want cream, we keep the milk in the coldest part of the refrigerator and do not move it. After two weeks there will be some cream at the top which can be skimmed off.
